The Hall-Héroult electrolysis process has been used since the beginning of industrial-scale aluminium production. The electrolysis cell is a complex multiphysics device, and many physical and chemical phenomena are relevant to the process.

CAETE has been working on aluminium reduction cells modeling for the past 27 years carrying out thermo-electrical, magneto-hydrodynamics, magnetic stability, anodes furnace thermal and combustion analyses. Improvements were achieved in cell lining designs, magnetic behavior and anode baking furnaces supported by these analyses.

CAETE also conducts cell lining measurements and autopsies. These are crucial assessment for verifying the integrity of the lining design and identify cell mode failures. Engineering construction drawings are also provided.
